Carboplatin is a platinum compound that is preferred to cisplatin by virtue of its better toxicity profile.

Carboplatin is a platinum compound that is preferred to cisplatin by virtue of its better toxicity profile. In combination with paclitaxel, carboplatin is a gold standard for treatment of advanced ovarian cancer. AUC dosing (commonly 4-6) is generally preferred to body surface area (BSA) dosing.  With a much less renal toxicity than cisplatin, a vigorous hydration schedule or forced dieresis is not required with carboplatin.

Indications:

• CARBOMAX (Carboplatin) is used in the treatment of advanced ovarian cancer, small cell lung cancer, Head and Neck cancer and in genitourinary cancer, particularly in testicular, bladder and cervical cancer
• Antitumour activity of Carboplatin has also been observed in pediatric brain tumor (meduloblastoma)
